Lisbon (Lisboa) is the capital
of Portugal and does not qualify for the grants for rural tourism applicable
to most rural manor houses,
Some of the great old houses
and palaces of the city can be found in our hotel section.
In the past the Court moved
to the cooler climate of Sintra in summer and there are manor houses here
and neighbouring Cascais.
There are manor houses offering accommodation on the other
side of the Vasco da Gama bridge to the airport in the old town of Alcochete which looks
over the estuary.
To the south are the castles
of Setubal and Palmela which are now Pousadas which are on the hotel page.
The Tagus estuary has a large
bird sanctuary and the Arrabida peninsular around Sesimbra is a natural
park.
