Quinta das Sequoias is of exceptional quality and is situated on "Serra de Sintra", the range of hills above the town of Sintra. From the house there are magnificent views of the hills, the Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle and across the coastal plain to the Atlantic ocean.
The house has recently been restored and offers modern day comforts whilst retaining the charm of an old manor house.
There is easy access from Lisbon and its airport making this manor attractive for the business traveller as well as the tourist. The last 4 kilometres is up a small road which climbs up from the town and has many mansions and palaces on both sides, but unfortunately hidden behind high walls.
Accommodation consists of five en-suite bedrooms. Guests have the use of the lounge and an old kitchen converted into a breakfast room. Other services and facilities available at Quinta das Sequoias include wireless internet access, television, dvd and computer.
This is a very popular house for businessmen visiting Lisbon and availability is very limited. Cascais, Estoril or Lisbon are within easy reach from Quinta das Sequoias. Activities in the area include trekking, mountain biking, photography field workshops and astronomy lessons.
Sintra is one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal. Located at the foot of the mountain range of the same name, its unique characteristics have led UNESCO to classify it as a World heritage site.
From early times Sintra has been the place of choice for the settlement of various peoples who have passed through the Iberian Peninsula and left traces of their presence, which are now displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Odrinhas, in the outskirts of the town.
In the 12th century, Dom Afonso Henriques, the first King of Portugal, captured the Moorish Castle, and his successors later built their holiday residence. Their physiognomy is marked by the two enormous conical chimneys built in the Middle Ages. The palaces, too, are outstanding, such as the Pena Palace, built in the Romantic period on one of the mountain peaks, and the 18th century Palace of Seteais, now converted into an elegant hotel, and the Palace of Monserrate, famous for its beautiful gardens with their exotic species that are unique in the country. Other interesting sites in the area include Cabo da Roca, the most western point of Europe, and the beaches of Praia das Macas, Praia Grande and Praia da Adraga. |
