It nestles in the wild hills of the lower Alentejo Portugal - a sparsely populated region of exceptional and unique beauty.

For over twelve years the Quinta has provided a haven for those from near and far to spend some time away from the rat race.

Its sheltered position and unique micro climate allow an abundance of plants to flourish in the fruit and flower gardens, offering peace and privacy to visitors, many of whom are happiest lazing at the water's edge.

The lake, with an average summer temperature of 82ºF, is a refreshing (and unpolluted) change from the sea, but for those who like the beaches, the Algarve, as well as the spectacularly unspoiled West Coast, is only one hour away.

The seven en suite rooms are airy, cool and comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious. Room service is available for breakfast, and a buffet lunch is served under the shade of the Pergola.

Much of the excellent home-made food, of cordon bleu standard, is fresh from the organic garden: honey from hives on the hillside, free range eggs from the chickens on the island, brown bread baked daily with flour from the local mill and, of course, fish from the lake.

In the evening, after the bee eaters have come back to roost in the eucalyptus, an informal dinner is served under the starry sky. Guests are often tempted back to the lake after their meal to catch crayfish, swim or simply to take a stroll.

For the active, there's plenty to do. Sailing, canoeing and fishing are available for beginners and experienced enthusiasts alike: mountain bikes, badminton and table tennis are also on offer.
Under request there is a massage service available.

For those who like to get out by foot or bike, there is some wonderful countryside to be explored with spectacular views over the lake, offering a fascinating variety of birds and animals. From hoopoes and herons to tree frogs and mongooses, each season brings its own delights.

For large families or special interest groups, looking for exclusive villa accommodation, group bookings are available. The owner offers a number of specialised courses, most notably bird watching.
