At Vila Nova de Gaia, situated on the left margin at the mouth of the river Douro, one can try different types of Port at the wine lodges and learn about its history and production.

Solar de Miragaia was built during the second half of the 17th century. With no descendants the owner donated it to a priest. From that date until 1880, the property was inhabited by priests, monks and bishops. It then passed to the owners' actual family and was restored maintaining its architecture and features.

In the house there is a small chapel guests may use during their stay. A manuscript dated 1612 and a relic were found in its altar.

The historical character of the main house is immediately noticed once you step into the entrance hall. The wooden ceilings, the traditional decoration and furniture give a glimpse of its origins and former inhabitants. In one of the walls there is an impressive tapestry of the 18th century.

On the lower floor there are two twin bedrooms and two double bedrooms, all having private bathroom with the exception of one twin which has a shower room.

On the upper floor there are two double bedrooms with private bathrooms. All bedrooms are comfortable and decorated with traditional furniture. All bedrooms have heating.

The living room has cable television and over the fireplace there is an impressive metal panel featuring the house's coat of arms.

The swimming pool measures 7 by 3,5 meters (22,97 by 11,48 feet) with a maximum depth reaching the 2 meters (6,56 feet). It is situated by the house in the gardened area.

From the swimming pool the view is quite impressive and stretches out for miles.
